June 5th 2020 – Generation 3D Reveal the CLINICASE

COVID-19 is becoming the most devastating pandemic in modern history. With very few strategies to prevent infections other than social distancing and wearing masks, we have tackled an issue that affects everyone. Mobile phones are in constant contact with surfaces to our hands and are a major source of spread and contamination. Major Dr. Rashid Al Ghafri of Dubai police, called smartphones potentially the “Trojan horse” of the global pandemic. This is why we developed CliniCase, an anti-viral smartphone case. The Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology at Dubai Police conducted research at a number of Australian universities that proved mobile phones represent a pathway for microbial transmission including COVID-19. Studies from the university of Arizona indicate you smartphone has up to 30 times more bacteria than a public toilet seat.

With a clear indication of just how crucial mobile phones can be, we have used nano copper technology to create an anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial phone case. The antibacterial action from CliniCase has been scientifically validated eliminating more than 99.99% of fungi, viruses, bacteria and a wide range of microorganisms and is FDA registered and EU compliant. The PLA and nano copper composite is even being tested by NASA to evaluate its impact on interplanetary microbial contamination. We are able to use this PLA Nanocopper patented material in our state of the art 3D printing facilities in Dubai and the UK.

A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that the virus is viable on surfaces for up to 72 hours on plastics, 48 hours on stainless steel, 24 hours on cardboard however, only 30 seconds to 5 minutes on nano copper making it one of the most efficient antiviral materials available on the market today.4
CliniCase was conceptualized by identifying the most frequently touched surfaces. CliniCase will allow consumers to now be one step ahead and protected when using something as often as a mobile phone. It is due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 and its crippling effects on communities, that we have decided to venture into this technology to help create products that remedy this problem and help restore lives and businesses back to normal as quickly as possible. We have aimed to use our areas of core competencies in urban, product and mechanical design to the task in areas we feel we can add value and keep safe.

As a leading 3D printing company in the Middle East & Europe, Generation 3D saw it as our responsibility to use our 3D printing manufacturing facilities and know-how to help with the growing issues with making people safe again during this pandemic and our solution was something as simple as an antiviral smartphone case.
